Local guides will lead each event with interesting stories about the history of the area.
At a meeting of the Elan Valley Social Club last week it was decided to organise a day of fundraising walks in aid of the people of Haiti whose lives and communities have been decimated by the recent earthquake.
A variety of walks are being planned to take place in the Elan Valley on 7th March, aimed at families, Sunday strollers and more experienced hill walkers.
Runners haven’t been forgotten and an equally scenic route will be devised for you.
The Elan Valley Visitors Centre has generously agreed to open and act as the base for the events.
We also hope that other community groups would like to join the fundraising effort with activities happening throughout the Rhayader District so that we can have a Weekend For Haiti during 5th-7th March.

Local Fire Fighters First Response
As soon as Rhayader Firemen heard about the Haiti Hike and the local drive to raise money for the stricken people of Haiti their response was immediate. They have organised a Fundraising Car Wash at the Rhayader Fire Station on Sunday 21st February 2pm to 4pm. They are also appealing for contributions towards a Cake Stall and prizes for a Raffle to run alongside the Car Wash. Our thanks to Rhayader Fire Fighters.

Rhayader Running Club are planning a unique experience for the runners joining in the 8 mile fundraiser in the Elan Valley. Local legend Dave Connelly is personally planning the route to include the most beautiful and the most interesting parts of this stunning natural wilderness. Not only will you get the stunning views but Dave will impart local folklore,legend and gossip on the way round! This is a one off opportunity not to be missed.
